AI specialist, founder, filmmaker and mentor. The long version of how a scholarship out of Jos became four kinds of work running at once.

01Story
Thomas Gabriel Chung is a Nigerian AI specialist, founder and filmmaker based in Moscow. He arrived in Russia in 2017 on a bilateral education scholarship between the Nigerian and Russian governments, having finished secondary school with the best result in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination — nine A1s in nine subjects.
He graduated first in his year from Voronezh State University of Engineering Technologies with a 5.0 GPA in automation engineering, then took two master's degrees at once: artificial intelligence at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, and technology entrepreneurship at Innopolis University, where he finished in the top 1% of his class.
Since then the work has run on four tracks at the same time. He builds applied AI — fine-tuning models at QuestMeUp and GdeRadost, researching LLM efficiency at Dugree in New York, and building educational models as a research assistant at MIPT. He runs businesses: GT Merch, an augmented-reality merchandise company that won a 1,000,000₽ Russian government startup grant, and Afrimoll, a marketplace for African products and services operating inside Russia.
He directs films. Seven years and 300+ visual projects across documentary, branded content, podcasts and short-form, including 15+ short films with SFC Russia — a group he helped grow into one of the largest foreign-student filmmaking organisations in the country — and Best Movie at the MZIAIF Film Festival Movie Challenge.
And he mentors. He founded RiseStrong in Nigeria, running one-to-one mentoring, small-group workshops and digital-skills programmes for young people over two and a half years. That sits on top of three and a half years of teaching, in classrooms and online — mathematics, primary science, computer literacy and English at Oxford Camp, SpeakyBoom and a private Moscow kindergarten — including sustained experience with children who have ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, dyslexia and attention difficulties.
The through-line is not a discipline. It is a preference for building the thing rather than describing it, and for working where two fields meet.
